Grant Gustin Hints at Multiverse Coming to THE FLASH

With Season One of The
Flash
about to come to a close tonight, Grant Gustin and company get to not
only celebrate their successes but more importantly they get to look to the
future of the series’ second season.  When
TV Guide spoke with TV’s Barry Allen, Gustin and Carlos Valdes kind enough to
give them (and us) a hint of what’s to come.
Gustin says that Barry’s plan to save his mother and free
his father from prison doesn’t work out as he’s planned and he may have negated
everything about his future.
More intriguing is the possibilities that spin out of this:
namely the possibility of an Earth-2.
For the uninitiated, Earth-2 was introduced in the Silver Age as a way
to reincorporate Golden Age heroes like the Jay Garrick Flash.  Garrick teamed up with other Golden Age
heroes to form a Justice Society and many of DC’s books through the sixties and
seventies ran concurrently with books taking place on Earth One until Earth-2
and the entire multi-verse was destroyed in the landmark event series Crisis on Infinite Earths.  Earth-2 was later reintroduced in Geoff Johns’
sequel series Infinite Crisis.
Barry Allen was the first Earth One hero to meet his Earth-2
counterpart, Jay Garrick, in September 1961 The Flash #123.
Earth-2 would allow producers to explore alternate and new
versions of characters to contrast against the characters we know and love.  Valdes describes the possibilities as tricky,
saying: “It gets a little Rubik’s Cube-y in terms of keeping consistency
between all these timelines and whatnot… But the writers have their stuff
together. If I were to trust anyone, it would be them.”
Unfortunately, after tonight we will have a long wait before
we can see what The Flash has in
store for us.
