JUSTICE LEAGUE: GODS AND MONSTERS CHRONICLES Renewed for Season 2; Premiere Date Announced

DC’s next animated film, Justice League: Gods and Monsters, is set to hit home video on July 28th. The movie will explore an alternative world in the DC Universe, with radically different versions of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and more. The film is the latest DC project from Bruce Timm. Shortly before Gods and Monsters is released, fans will get to see this world in action on Machinima in the series Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles.

Machinima held its Heroes Rise event in New York City today, and there, Timm debuted a first look at Gods and Monsters Chronicles. The series will premiere in June. ComicBook.com was present at the event, and the site describes what was shown.

At the event, a sizzle reel was screened, featuring first footage from the series. It showed a chainsaw-wielding Harley Quinn fighting Batman, as well as Lex Luthor and plenty of action. This take on Harley, who is bitten by the vampire Dark Knight, is said to be “disturbing.”

Timm went on to describe his love for alternate universe storylines and how he wanted to “try something new” with these iconic characters. Wonder why this version of Superman has a goatee? Timm cites the classic Star Trek episode “Mirror Mirror,” where the crew finds themselves in an alternate reality and meets different versions of themselves, including a goatee-clad Spock.

While Gods and Monsters Chronicles won’t premiere for another month, Machinima has already renewed the series for a second season. This season will debut in 2016 and will consist of ten episodes. Timm teased that several fan-favorite DC characters will debut in season two. “We’re going to try to squeeze in as many new versions of characters as possible. We have Mary Marvel, a Pam Grier version of Captain Marvel (complete with lightning-bolt adorned dress, curves, and afro). Steel, who’s nearly all robot, and a scary-looking alien Green Lantern.”
