DC Movie News Bits: Tyrese Again Shares Desire to Play GREEN LANTERN + Jared Leto’s Bizarre SUICIDE SQUAD Gifts

For months, Tyrese Gibson has been campaigning to play Green Lantern John Stewart in the DC Cinematic Universe. Much of it has been fueled by fan-made images of him as the Emerald Knight. Recently, it was rumored that the new Justice League and Green Lantern films will feature both Stewart and Hal Jordan. Could Tyrese have a shot at landing the former role?

The actor-musician once again spoke about Green Lantern in an interview with ET Online. “There are certain things I can’t speak on,” he says, before reaffirming that this “campaign” was spawned by the fan manipulations. Tyrese adds, “I’ve been a fan of the Green Lantern. I took the oath, and I had a meeting at Warner Bros. and certain things were said and talked about. We’ll just see what happens.”

The fact that he met with WB about Green Lantern certainly indicates his desire for the role. However, if Tyrese was in fact playing John Stewart, then he probably wouldn’t be allowed to talk about it as much as he has. Hopefully, with San Diego Comic-Con in two weeks, we will receive some official answers soon.

Meanwhile, Jared Leto is hard at work playing The Joker in Suicide Squad. His costars previously noted that the Oscar winner is going all-in with his portrayal of the character, and we have a potential indication of that dedication.

Adam Beach, who plays Slipknot in the film, tells E! Online that Leto has given his costars some very…unusual presents when he was not on set early in production. “He sent [Margot Robbie] a nice love letter with a black box with a rat in it—a live rat. It was beautiful. Then he sent bullets to Will [Smith] with a letter.” Perhaps this is the rat?

The third gift was – wait for it – a “dead hog,” along with a video with Leto in character. “Basically, what he said was, ‘Guys, I can’t be there but I want you to know I’m doing my work as hard as you guys. The video he showed is in character. It blew our minds away. Then we realized that day, this is real.” Beach concludes, “He encompasses this beautiful man and he shows it in, ‘Hello, how are you?,’ but in an instant, he goes to psychotic behavior where you’re in fear. But you love him because he has both of those genuine sides.”

So, it looks like Leto is fully embracing his Joker persona for the movie. It will be fascinating to see the final result. Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on August 5th, 2016.
