Jesse Eisenberg Teases “Real” Portrayal of Lex Luthor in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

Jesse Eisenberg is currently doing press junkets for his new movie, The End of the Tour. And naturally, the subject of his role as Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is coming up. Yesterday, he confirmed that he will be at San Diego Comic-Con next month to promote the film in an hour long panel. And now, he has shed some more light into his depiction of Superman’s arch nemesis.

Speaking with MTV, Eisenberg says he is focused on making the Lex Luthor character his own, and he is not worried about how his performance will compare to the comics. “The expectations that I have are never the same expectations that an audience has. I don’t have expectations for myself to adhere to a comic book character, but a lot of people are interested in how I would coincide with the comic book character. But it couldn’t be farther from my mind, because I’m just playing a role.”

The Oscar nominee goes on to praise his character, particularly screenwriter Chris Terrio’s work on him. Eisenberg teases that his Lex Luthor will be a more realistic one, and it sounds like he won’t be a one-dimensional villain. “It’s a really great character that’s written by this guy, Chris Terrio, he’s a phenomenal writer… He loves my character in the same way I love my character. He put a lot of work into it. It’s a great character, there’s an emotional core to the character. It’s not this silly, villainous character. This is a real depiction of a person who thinks these things. So the challenge is to make it seem real.”

Fans may have been very divided on Eisenberg as Luthor when the casting was announced, but it sounds like the actor is very committed to the role. And that is always a good thing. Stay tuned for more as we have it.
