John Barrowman Confirms Return for ARROW Season Four

While it cannot be said for certain that John Barrowman’s
“Malcolm Merlyn” has become one of the most popular characters on Arrow during its three year run, it’s
pretty safe to say that he’s become one of the most dynamic characters on the
show.  Those of you that agree will be
happy to hear that Barrowman announced at a convention appearance in Las Vegas
this weekend that he has signed on to return.
Barrowman as Merlyn started out as a shady villainous type
in the back of a limo with Oliver’s mother early in season one as they discussed
the Undertaking.  It was quickly revealed
that he was also the father of Oliver’s best friend, Tommy and from there the
pieces were added one at a time until the Season Three finale where he took
command of the late Ra’s al Ghul’s “League of Assassins.”
Barrowman was excited as he’d announced that he recently
signed his season four deal and that filming begins next month.  However he turned understandably vague as he
told the crowd what to expect next season:
I can’t tell you
anything because I do know a bit about what’s going to happen. But if you love
Malcolm Merlyn, if you love Oliver Queen, if you love Thea Queen, if you love
the Canary sisters, and I say that with a bit of a twist and a joke in it,
you’re going to love what’s going to happen across the DC world.
Personally, I’m pretty excited about this, Barrowman’s
Merlyn was among my favorite characters last season and I’m looking forward to
see how he will proceed as the new Ra’s al Ghul.
