Next BATMAN Movie Reportedly Set for 2018 Release; Ben Affleck to Direct?

In addition to the DC movie lineup announced last fall, Warner Bros. said that new solo films for Batman and Superman would be released within the 2016-2020 timeframe. It was previously rumored that the former, titled The Batman, was targeting a 2019 release, but that was never verified. Now, however, a new report suggests that we could see Batman’s next solo adventure even sooner.

According to Latino-Review, The Batman is now targeting a November 2018 theatrical release. Ben Affleck will direct and star in the movie, which will be written by Chris Terrio. Terrio rewrote Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and he is attached to write the two-part Justice League saga. So, it looks like he will be very busy over the next couple years. Also, Marvel Studios has its Captain Marvel film slotted for November 2018, so if this rumor is true, then it appears Carol Danvers will be facing competition from the Dark Knight himself.

Collider has weighed in on this report with word from its own sources. According to the site, Affleck is contracted to play Batman in at least three films. In addition to that, he would likely direct and write his own Batman movie. Given the actor-director’s busy schedule, screenwriting duties have been turned over to Terrio. But don’t be surprised if Affleck works closely with Terrio in drafting the film.

Again, this info has yet to be officially confirmed by Warner Bros., so take it with a pinch of salt until we hear more. Could the studio officially announce The Batman at Comic-Con? We’ll just have to wait and see.
