Breaking: Ben Affleck Set to Direct and Star in New BATMAN Movie; Will Co-Write Script with Geoff Johns

A couple weeks ago, it was rumored that Ben Affleck was directing and starring in a standalone Batman film, which would be written by Chris Terrio. Some have speculated that the movie, allegedly titled The Batman, would be announced at Warner Bros.’ San Diego Comic-Con panel this weekend. But now, a new report reveals that the studio is indeed moving forward with the Caped Crusader’s next solo adventure.

According to Deadline, Affleck is in fact set to direct and star in the next Batman movie. However, instead of Terrio, Affleck will be co-writing the script with none other than Geoff Johns. As the chief creative officer of DC Comics, Johns has been heavily involved with many of the company’s recent films and television shows. He has also written two excellent volumes of the Batman: Earth One comic book series.

The plan is for Affleck to direct the Batman movie after filming Live By Night this fall. Fortunately, Deadline says that he and Johns are very well in sync when it comes to their vision of Batman. In fact, a script may be turned in by the end of the summer, before Affleck goes off to direct Live By Night. The film’s plot would focus on Batman’s character following the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

It is unknown where exactly the Batman film will be slotted into WB’s DC movie schedule. Rumor has it that it will be released in November 2018. Since this movie is now a priority for the studio, it may force other DC films to move to make room.

Hopefully, we’ll hear an official announcement from WB at Comic-Con this Saturday. Stay tuned for more as we have it.
