Ezra Miller Comments on Playing THE FLASH and Praises the TV Series

Ezra Miller’s casting as The Flash in the DC Extended Universe last fall was a polarizing announcement among comic book fans. Some praised the decision and Miller’s acting abilities, while others said he was not a good fit looks-wise. However, the actor is very passionate about landing this iconic role, something he expresses in a new interview.

Speaking with MTV (transcription via ComicBook.com), Miller discusses what drew him to the Barry Allen character. “Barry Allen is the Silver Age, who follows a lot of interesting discoveries in physics. Where he comes from is, we figured out the event horizon was there, and then he was the character who was created through our mythos machine of comic books to break that event horizon so we could explore in fantasy, and I think that’s an interesting idea. And what’s an interesting idea to me is, WTF does that do to someone?” Clearly, Miller has been brushing up on his research for the role.

The actor goes on to reaffirm how director Zack Snyder offered him the part, and he geeks out over the fact that his character co-exists with the likes of Batman. Talk then turned to The CW’s hit television series The Flash, which stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen. Miller says that he is not avoiding the show; rather, he is embracing it and Gustin’s version of the character. “I’m not avoiding it. I’m not avoiding it at all. I think it’s awesome! And come on — we’re The Flash. It’s parallel universes. Grant Gustin is The Flash, and I’m The Flash, don’t you see? It’s the event horizon, we crossed it, baby. Grant and I are chillin’. We’re going to have a race. It’s gonna be dope. Like Jay Garrick and Barry Allen back in the day.” With many fans complaining about Miller playing the movie Flash instead of Gustin, it’s good to know that one is very appreciative of the other.

Ezra Miller is expected to make his debut as The Flash in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In addition to the two-part Justice League saga, Miller will headline The Flash solo film in 2018. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
