DC Movie Bits: Henry Cavill Talks DCEU Plan, Viola Davis Talks SUICIDE SQUAD, JUSTICE LEAGUE Pre-Production Start Date

Warner Bros. obviously has an ambitious plan for its DC Extended Universe, which began with 2013’s Man of Steel and will fully open up next year with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Speaking with Uproxx, Superman star Henry Cavill commented on the studio’s plan and how the movies tie into each other.

“There’s a big plan in place at WB for the whole DC franchise,” Cavill says, “So, all of this stuff ties in. They’re not thinking from movie to movie, they’re thinking from a big tent pole type thing and each story has its own story, which is attached to the major issue. Yeah, there’s a big plan.” Not the most earth-shattering reveal, but a cool insight into what Warner has in store. For the rest of Cavill’s interview with Uproxx, click the link above.

Before Viola Davis finalized her deal to play Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad, the actress had to rework her schedule for ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder to accommodate this role. In an interview with /Film, Davis reveals that the network was fully supportive of her joining Suicide Squad. “They were totally willing to work it out. I’d never seen anything like it. Paul Lee came up to me and said, ‘Oh, I want you to have everything.’ Who does that? I was very lucky.”

As for the film’s tone, Davis says, “I mean, you saw the trailer so the trailer very much, what you see is these superheroes have been humanized. That’s what makes this kind of a different superhero movie.” Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters August 5th, 2016.

Finally, we have some more comments from Henry Cavill. Recently, we heard that Justice League was expected to begin production next January. However, during his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (via ComicBook.com), Cavill clarifies that that date will actually mark the start of pre-production. Justice League, I think we start pre-production on that in January.”

Pre-production is pretty much the final stage of development for a movie before filming begins, and it happens right when an official greenlight is given. This stage usually includes casting, finalization of the script, additions to the production’s crew and more.

So, the two-part Justice League epic probably won’t begin actual production in January; it would make more sense if it started after Batman v Superman release next March. By then, the cast and crew will be finished with promotional duties, and Gal Gadot will have finished shooting Wonder Woman.

Expect more news to come soon. Justice League Part One is set to hit theaters in 2017, while Part Two is slated for 2019.
