Henry Cavill Talks Lois Lane vs. Wonder Woman and Potential Superman Appearance in SUICIDE SQUAD

In a couple of different interviews (via Batman-News), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Henry Cavill talked about the DC Extended Universe. We know his Superman will return in the two-part Justice League, as well as a standalone sequel to Man of Steel. But what about other DC films on the current slate?

Metro asked Cavill if he will reprise his Superman role in 2016’s Suicide Squad, and the actor answered with a definite “No.” However, when further inquired, he says that he “might” appear in a sequel, if one ever happens.

We know that Ben Affleck’s Batman will return in Suicide Squad, and rumor has it that Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor may also appear. However, Superman’s absence isn’t exactly surprising; while Batman has plenty of connections to the Suicide Squad in the comics and beyond, Superman does not…yet.

In a separate interview with Cosmopolitan, Cavill talked about the introduction of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) in Dawn of Justice. He expressed his happiness over seeing more female superheroes getting the spotlight, and he calls Wonder Woman “an incredibly strong character” who can hold her own against Superman.

Talk then turned to the ever-growing Wonder Woman vs. Lois Lane debate. The latter is by far Superman’s most familiar love interest, and this relationship has been depicted in many adaptations, such as Man of Steel. However, DC introduced the Superman-Wonder Woman pairing in the New 52, and it sounds like the company wishes to make this the new status quo. This has led to speculation from fans that Clark Kent and Diana Prince will eventually become partners in the DCEU.

But what does Cavill have to say about this debate? “This is a very long discussion because there are a lot of questions to be asked and answered. I mean who is better for a super-powered alien, a human or a goddess? Yes, the goddess can do all the normal things, which we would think are normal in a relationship, and not have any fear of Superman. But you also need to have that baseline of humanity, which Lois provides. And literally keeps his feet on the ground, keeps him down to earth. So that’s more of a debate than an answer.” Some very valid points here.
