Rumor: Warner Bros. Wants More Batman, Less Superman in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is now deep in the post-production phase, with the movie finally hitting theaters next spring. It was recently revealed that Warner Bros. execs have seen the film already, and they were reportedly floored by how good it was. However, a new rumor may suggest that the studio wants to make some changes to the final cut that will surely stir some feathers.

According to Heroic Hollywood, rumor has it that WB wants an even bigger presence from Batman in Dawn of Justice, and less Superman. Apparently, the studio was so impressed by Ben Affleck’s performance, that Henry Cavill’s Superman is being blown “right off the screen” by the Dark Knight.

This rehashes a prior rumor suggesting that Batman is about to become the cornerstone character of the DC Extended Universe. In addition to roles in Suicide Squad (which also has a lot of Batman villains) and Justice League, Batfleck will go on to star in his own solo movie and perhaps trilogy. Combine this with Batman’s consistent video game and LEGO success, among other areas, and it is clear that he is a more valuable character than Superman.

Also, Affleck is a really big name right now, as both an actor and a director. So, WB wanting to utilize his star power as much as possible shouldn’t be surprising. And he brought screenwriter Chris Terrio aboard to rewrite the Batman v Superman script, which is being heavily praised by the cast members.

Meanwhile, Henry Cavill’s latest movie, the WB production The Man From U.N.C.L.E., is a financial disappointment. Sure, the actor will go on to star in a standalone Man of Steel sequel, but the big draw for the DCEU right now is obviously Batman.

Personally, I hope that this rumor isn’t true. I always hoped that Dawn of Justice would put both Superman and Batman on equal footing, and the studio intervening to inject its bias doesn’t sound like a good idea. Let director Zack Snyder make the film how he wants it. Not to mention, Superman is clearly the focus of the whole movie; the ramifications of Man of Steel, the responses from various characters to his existence, etc. So to undermine that would be a terrible idea, and I hope WB doesn’t do so.

Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
