Warner Bros. Reportedly Developing Booster Gold-Blue Beetle Team-Up Movie; Greg Berlanti to Direct

It has been teased over the past year that Warner Bros. and DC have plans to bring both Booster Gold and Blue Beetle to live action, explaining why the two haven’t appeared in any of The CW’s shows yet. And now, we know what those plans are, and they surely sound exciting.

According to The Tracking Board, WB is officially developing a team-up feature film starring Booster Gold and Blue Beetle. Greg Berlanti, who has shepherded DC shows Arrow, The Flash and the upcoming Supergirl, will direct and executive produce this project. Sarah Schechter will also exec produce.

Meanwhile, Heroic Hollywood adds that screenwriter Zak Penn – who wrote scripts for X-Men: The Last Stand and The Incredible Hulk, among other superhero movies – is being eyed to write the screenplay for the team-up film.

While some have been critical of the DC Extended Universe’s mostly dark and serious approach, the untitled Booster Gold/Blue Beetle film is being described as a “superhero buddy cop movie.” The two characters have been friends in the comics for a long time, and it is cool to see it brought to the big screen.

Berlanti is an ideal choice to bring this project together, considering his success with DC’s television shows. In fact, he wrote a script for a Booster Gold pilot at SyFy. Also of note: According to The Tracking Board, Berlanti has story credit on two other upcoming DCEU films: The Flash and Green Lantern Corps. The writer did work on drafts for both a prior Flash movie and an unproduced Green Lantern sequel, so maybe some of that work is being carried over to the new versions.

So, this is some very exciting news here. Hopefully, Warner Bros. will officially announce something sooner than later. Stay tuned.
