Another JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Casting Rumor – Ben Mendelsohn Wanted for Villain Role?

Yesterday, we received a slew of casting rumors for Warner Bros./DC’s Justice League Dark movie, tentatively titled Dark Universe. So far, Colin Farrell is the frontrunner to play John Constantine, with Ewan McGregor also in contention; a black/Hispanic actress is being sought for Zatanna; Ron Perlman is a top choice for Swamp Thing; a comedic actor is being eyed for Deadman; and whoever doesn’t play Constantine may play Jason Blood, aka Etrigan the Demon.

Today, we have another casting rumor. According to Heroic Hollywood, the main villain in Dark Universe is Anton Arcane. Best known as the primary enemy of Swamp Thing, Arcane previously appeared in 1982’s Swamp Thing movie and 1989’s The Return of Swamp Thing.

Apparently, Ben Mendelsohn is being sought for this role. The catch, however, is that he would only consider accepting the role depending on who will direct. Guillermo del Toro dropped out of the director’s chair a few months ago, so WB currently has to find a new one.

Of course, this wouldn’t be Mendelsohn’s first trip to the DC Universe. He previously played John Daggett in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises. The actor is also currently shooting Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Dark Universe is expected to begin production sometime next year, presumably for a 2017/2018 theatrical release. Expect more news to come soon.
