Charles Roven Offers Update on THE FLASH Movie and Reaffirms Separation From TV Show

While The CW’s The Flash television series has been a huge success, Warner Bros. is going with a completely different incarnation of the Scarlet Speedster for the DC Extended Universe. Ezra Miller will star in 2018’s The Flash movie as Barry Allen, who is played by Grant Gustin in the show. Miller’s casting last year pretty much ruled out any sort of crossover between the film and television properties, even if The Flash introduced the Multiverse this season. Now, one of the movie’s producers reaffirms this.

Speaking with Collider, producer Charles Roven offers an update on The Flash movie. He says the film is “early, early, early” in the script stage. Seth Grahame-Smith was recently hired to write and direct the movie, which has a treatment written by Chris Miller and Phil Lord.

Roven then weighs in on the inevitable comparisons between the film and television versions. He reaffirms that The Flash, as well as fellow DC TV shows Arrow and Gotham, is completely separate from the DCEU. However, he offers hope that audiences will embrace both incarnations. “Our Flash is gonna be not that guy. [Gustin is] terrific in doing [what he’s doing]. I think that whether it’s The Flash or Arrow, they’re doing a great job with the TV shows they’re doing. Gotham, that show’s really terrific. And we obviously wish them the best. It’s gonna be interesting to see what happens when we have a different Flash in a different universe. We’re gonna try to stay in our universe and they’re gonna be staying, I think, in their universe, and hopefully the audiences will embrace both. I think they can. You know, Supergirl is not in our universe, and that seems to be doing quite well.”

So yeah, in case anyone still doesn’t understand, the two Flashes of film and TV will not intersect. Even if the Multiverse offers up the possibility, don’t count on it ever happening. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
