Ben Affleck Discusses Batman’s Role in the Justice League; A Closer Look at the New Batcave

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, available today, has a few new tidbits on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We have a new look at the updated Batcave, while Ben Affleck weighs in on Batman’s role in the Justice League and how he stands out from other superheroes. Also, how is Jeremy Irons’ Alfred Pennyworth different from past incarnations?

While Wayne Manor has been neglected, the Batcave in Batman v Superman has been kept up-to-date by Alfred and Bruce Wayne. Regarding how his take on Alfred is unique, Irons says, “Alfred is a lot more hands-on in our film than he has previously been. He’s a bit of a grease monkey, and he’s very involved in the decisions Bruce makes.” You can check out some concept art of the new and improved Batcave below.

Additionally, Affleck commented on how Batman fits into this world of god-like heroes. Basically, the thing that helps the Dark Knight stand out from other members of the Justice League is his humanity. “[Batman] represents human beings, mortal men. In a world of Flashes and Aquamen and Supermen, there needs to be that guy. It’s interesting that
 he became the
leader of the Justice League in the books — I’m not sure how that’ll play out here — but his humanity is also an asset.” So will Batman emerge as the leader of the team in 2017’s Justice League Part One? We’ll have to wait and see.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled to hit theaters March 25th, 2016. The second installment in the DC Extended Universe stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Gal Gadot. Zack Snyder directs from a script by Chris Terrio and David S Goyer.
