SUPERGIRL Casts DC Villain Silver Banshee; Lexi Alexander to Direct an Episode

We have a couple of updates on CBS’ Supergirl, hot off the heels of a full-season pickup. It has been announced today that DC Comics villain Silver Banshee will appear on the show. Chasing Life alum Italia Ricci will play Kara’s latest adversary.

Ricci will play Siobhan Smythe, who is described as “Cat Grant’s latest hire who at first becomes a work nemesis for Kara — but she later proves a more deadly foe for Supergirl when she takes on the mantle of DC Comics villain, Silver Banshee.” Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had this to say about the casting. “We are so excited to be working with Italia. We’ve been a fan of her work for years and we cannot wait to see her take on this iconic comic book role.”

Ricci has been supportive of DC’s television shows over the years. In fact, she’s in a relationship with actor Robbie Amell, who played Ronnie Raymond/Robbie Amell on The Flash. So, it’s not surprising that she would eventually play one of these characters.

In other Supergirl news, the show has recruited Lexi Alexander to direct an episode. The filmmaker confirmed on Twitter (via Comic Book Resources) that she will helm an unspecified episode of the CBS series.
This will mark Alexander’s second DC television venture; she directed Arrow S4E4, “Beyond Redemption,” which is arguably one of the best episodes in that show’s entire run. So, Alexander is a welcome addition to the Supergirl team. Alexander also directed 2008 feature film Punisher: War Zone, only further adding to her comic book credentials.
