Connie Nielsen Set to Play Queen Hippolyta in WONDER WOMAN

Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman movie has been shooting in the UK for a couple months now. However, the highly anticipated superhero film has now cast a prominent role – Diana Prince’s mother, Queen Hippolyta. And no, it’s not Robin Wright.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gladiator actress Connie Nielsen will play Hippolyta in Wonder Woman. Hippolyta is the Queen of Themiscyra and her people, the Amazons. This will mark Nielsen’s first comic book movie role; however, back in 2011, she was rumored for the role of Superman’s mother, Lara, in Man of Steel.

Back when Warner Bros. announced the main Wonder Woman cast in November, Robin Wright was included, but her role wasn’t named. So, fans speculated that maybe she was playing Hippolyta. However, according to Variety, Wright is, in fact, playing Diana’s aunt. Rumor had it that WB would have the script rewritten to merge Wright’s role with Hippolyta, but that’s not the case. Also, Hippolyta was the role that Nicole Kidman was in talks for, but she passed due to scheduling conflicts.
