Henry Cavill Comments on MAN OF STEEL Criticisms; New Plot Synopsis for BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

Henry Cavill made his debut as Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel, which set the tone for what is now known as the DC Extended Universe. The movie was very successful at the box office, becoming the highest grossing Superman film worldwide. However, it has its fair share of critics. Common criticisms of the film range from the tone and the (excessive?) destruction in Metropolis to Superman killing Zod. Now, Cavill has weighed in on this polarizing response, as well as whether or not the critiques will be addressed in the next movie.

Speaking with Cineplex, Cavill acknowledges that Man of Steel did not exactly receive the most positive reception from everyone. However, it doesn’t look like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will go out of its way to address the issues that some people had with the first movie. “The reception of my first Superman movie, from what I’ve read, was fairly mixed. Everyone I’ve spoken to enjoyed the movie, but [not] unlike if you’re going to meet a stranger in the street, they’re not going to badmouth you to your face. There’s no intentional move, I don’t think, in Batman v Superman to address any issues that people had with Man of Steel. It’s just a continuation of that storyline and they continue to develop that world and introduce new characters.”

Cavill then shares his excitement about continuing to develop his “complicated and interesting” character, teasing his character growth in Batman v Superman. “Superman especially, he’s just wonderfully rich and one of those things, for me, that’s just enjoyable to play. There’s so far you can go with it; if you really, really delve deep into the character, there’s so much you can do. It’s just about exploring it within the vehicles and finding what you want to do. He’s going to have some very interesting character development in this one.”

In other news, UK theater chain Vue has added a new plot synopsis to its Batman v Superman page. This one is much more detailed than the main summary, which was released last summer. The following description offers insight into how exactly the world views Superman, the emotions behind his war with Batman, and the rise of a new threat in the midst of this long awaited conflict.

Check out the plot synopsis below, and stay tuned for more news as we have it.

Following his titanic struggle against General Zod, Metropolis has been razed to the ground and Superman is the most controversial figure in the world. While for many he is still an emblem of hope, a growing number of people consider him a threat to humanity, seeking justice for the chaos he has brought to Earth.

As far as Bruce Wayne is concerned, Superman is clearly a danger to society. He fears for the future of the world with such a reckless power left ungoverned, and so he dons his mask and cape to right Superman’s wrongs.

The rivalry between them is furious, fuelled by bitterness and vengeance, and nothing can dissuade them from waging this war. However, a dark new threat arises in the form of a third man: one who has a power greater than either of them to endanger the world and cause total destruction.

The superhero stand-off that the world has been waiting for is finally arriving in cinemas, with an all-star cast bringing to life the characters we all love.

Zack Snyder (300) returns as director following the huge success of 2013’s Man of Steel, along with Henry Cavill (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) in the role of Superman.

Also starring Ben Affleck (Gone Girl) as Batman, Amy Adams (American Hustle) as Lois Lane, and Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 7) as Wonder Woman, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is an explosive, action-packed blockbuster that is sure to thrill DC fans everywhere.
