An R-Rated “Ultimate” Cut of BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is On the Way

Well, this is probably the most unexpected headline you’ll read today. A few months back, MPAA confirmed a PG-13 rating for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. You know, the rating that accompanies 99% of superhero movies nowadays. However, there is another cut of this film that was just classified by the MPAA, and it has been given a rating of…R?!

According to the MPAA (via Batman-News), an “Ultimate Edition” of Batman v Superman has been classified. It is rated R for “sequences of violence.” The cut is distributed by Warner Home Entertainment, so presumably, this is a director’s cut, which will be released on DVD/Blu-Ray.

Based on the rating, it looks like this cut will up the ante in terms of violence. But what exactly will happen to justify the R-rating? I guess we’ll find out in a few months, when the movie comes out on home video. Stay tuned for more as we have it.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled to hit theaters March 25th. The second installment in the DC Extended Universe stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Gal Gadot. Zack Snyder directs from a script by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer.
