DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW “Marooned” Review

Featuring the CWverse‘s first excursion into space, Marooned unfortunately did not offer much improvement from Legends Of Tomorrow‘s last episode.
Receiving a distress call from a fellow Time-Masters’ ship named Acheron, the team opts to offer assistance and head for outer space, if only to gain a programming update for Gideon will which help them track Savage. Once in contact with the Acheron, the team finds it seized by pirates. Rip, Jax, and Rory are captured in short order while the rest of the crew is left to fend for themselves on the Wave Rider.
The episode reiterated Rip’s guilt over failing to save his family while shedding further light on his character. It was revealed through Arrow style flashbacks that Rip’s wife, Miranda, trained to be a Time-Master with him. Unfortunately, their relationship was discovered, and Miranda voluntarily resigned after their relationship was discovered so that Rip could prove himself. While this lends depth to Rip’s character, the storyline as it played out was rather uninspired. Ray and Kendra’s out-of-the-blue relationship subplot introduced in the last episode also, regrettably, returned.

A far more interesting development occurred concerning Snart & Rory, another plot for which the seeds had been sown in the previous installment. Rory, still bitter at being forced to leave his paradise of 2046’s Star City, began to alienate himself from Snart and, ultimately, betrayed the crew for the pirates. Left with no other option, the crew Rory must be permanently dealt with, a duty Snart volunteers to perform. While the episode ends before it’s clear whether Rory was truly killed, it’s hard to imagine the show’s status quo returns in next week’s episode.
Overall, Marooned was a rather standard hour for both Legends Of Tomorrow and television as a whole, and thus there is little to say.
