DC TV Rumors: Oracle and Batwoman on SUPERGIRL, CONSTANTINE’s Future and More

San Diego Comic-Con is this week, and DC Entertainment is bringing its massive slate of television shows to the convention. At these panels, we should learn a lot more about each show’s upcoming season.

Bleeding Cool may have uncovered some of these plans with a series of rumors. The site says that some of these things may not even happen, so take the following with a pinch of salt for the time being.

First up, according to the site, both Barbara Gordon and Batwoman will appear on Supergirl next season. Batwoman/Katherine Kane, a recurring role, will be Maggie Sawyer’s ex. Meanwhile, Barbara will not be Batgirl here, but rather Oracle. She will develop a “strong” friendship with Supergirl, while her relationship with Batwoman is inspired by the Oracle/Black Canary partnership in the original Birds of Prey comics.

If this rumor is true, Supergirl will serve as Batwoman’s first live action portrayal. As for Barbara Gordon, she was set to appear in TNT’s Titans pilot before that was shelved. Personally, I would have expected Barbara to be a DC character being reserved for the movies, but a television appearance sounds cool too.

With two Batman supporting characters appearing on Supergirl, what about the Dark Knight himself? He is obviously still tied to Fox, who owns the TV rights, but the network has allegedly been approached about sharing the character – for a price. Bleeding Cool says that the only “economically feasible” way for this to happen if Bruce Wayne/Batman was a series regular across the whole network.

Recently, Arrow‘s John Barrowman signed a deal to be a series regular for all of The CW’s DC shows, while The Flash‘s Wentworth Miller signed a recurring deal. Apparently, the next actor to sign a series regular deal is John Wesley Shipp. The actor played Henry Allen in the first two seasons of The Flash, before being re-introduced as Earth-3 doppelganger Jay Garrick. Obviously, Shipp will be playing the latter character with this deal.

And finally, this tidbit should please fans of Constantine. According to Bleeding Cool, The CW is testing the streaming audience of the first season via CW Seed. Also, it sounds like Matt Ryan’s Hellblazer – who may also get a series regular deal – will appear on at least one of the network’s shows this upcoming season.

The CW is apparently interested in bringing back the Constantine show, probably on Friday nights – replacing The Vampire Diaries and pairing it with Supernatural. If the network can’t get Constantine, then another possibility is moving iZombie to Fridays. The CW wants to keep Friday as its “horror night” of the week. Plus, the network wants to have DC TV every weekend at 8 PM EST by the Fall 2017 season.

Again, keep in mind that these are all just rumors, and they may not end up being true. It’s possible that some of this stuff will be announced at SDCC this weekend, or at a later date. We’ll just have to wait and see.
