Ben Affleck Confirms THE BATMAN is on Track for Spring 2017 Production Start

Recently, signs have been pointing to Ben Affleck’s standalone Batman movie coming sooner than later. Warner Bros. is delaying Justice League 2 to make room for this film, currently titled The Batman, while Deathstroke actor Joe Manganiello has said that he begins shooting next spring. However, Affleck has remained mum on when exactly his movie is happening, citing a desire to create a good script before moving forward. But in a new interview, the filmmaker confirms what we previously heard.

Speaking with Variety, Affleck says that The Batman is now “on track” to begin production next spring. The site also confirms that this is his next film. He explains, “We’re on the right track with that and everything is coming together. We’re still finishing up a script. I’m very excited.”

Of course, Batman has been the star of many live action films, played by different actors and brought to life by different directors. So, how will Affleck approach that with his own vision? “I respect all of those movies,” the actor-writer-director says. “Christopher Nolan did an incredible job, Christian Bale did an incredible job, Tim Burton did an incredible job. At a certain point you have to look forward and try to believe in your own vision for it and not be looking over your shoulder the whole time. I go into that movie with a tremendous amount of respect for the people who came before me.”

Now that The Batman is set to shoot early next year, when will it hit theaters? Warner Bros. recently moved Aquaman from July 2018 to October 2018. Thus, a summer date for that year would be perfect for The Batman. Hopefully, the studio will confirm something soon.

The Batman will also star Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. Additional characters have yet to be confirmed.
