Younger George Lucas Will Appear in the Next Episode of DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW

Love him or hate him, George Lucas is one of the most influential filmmakers in blockbuster movie history. He was the first to bring Star Wars into the world, while he was a key influential force in the Indiana Jones franchise. Now, Lucas will be the subject of the next episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Producer Marc Guggenheim confirms to Entertainment Weekly that a younger George Lucas will appear in the midseason premiere of Legends, which airs on January 24th. This comes after the reveal that Rip Hunter is not only alive, but he’s working as a director in 1967 Los Angeles. Actor Matt Angel plays the younger Lucas. The episode is titled “Raiders of the Lost Art,” and it’s the first to air in the show’s new 9 PM EST timeslot.

This season, the Legends have been focused on correcting time aberrations across history. In this episode, the aberration is George Lucas quitting film school. As a result, he never makes movies such as Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark, which will have quite the effect on Ray Palmer and Nate Heywood. Guggenheim explains, “As a result, Ray, who became an engineer because of Star Wars, and Nate, who became a historian because of Raiders, slowly start to lose their brilliance, because those things that inspired them to become who they are didn’t exist.”

Guggenheim then says that “Raiders of the Lost Art” is one of the show’s most ambitious episodes to date, comparing it to the 1970s bar fight from season one “on steroids.” He recalls, “We were watching a cut of it, and I said to Greg [Berlanti] that 209 is either going to be the episode where we’ll say that the show found a new gear in terms of how zany it can be, or it’s the episode that’s going to get us all fired.”
