THE LEGO MOVIE SEQUEL Recruits a New Director

The LEGO Movie was a huge hit back in 2014, and since then, Warner Bros. is building a cinematic universe based around the film. The first spin-off, The LEGO Batman Movie, hits theaters this weekend, with The LEGO Ninjago Movie dropping later this year. Of course, however, we still have a direct sequel in the works, now with a new director.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Trolls co-director Mike Mitchell will take the helm on The LEGO Movie Sequel. Rob Schrab was originally attached to direct, but he dropped out due to “creative differences.” Mitchell certainly has a more impressive animation portfolio; he has also directed Shrek Forever After and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.

The most recent draft of The LEGO Movie Sequel was written by Matt Fogel. Chris Miller, Phil Lord, Dan Lin and Roy Lee are producing. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on February 8th, 2019.
