Marc Guggenheim Teases New DC Character in LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Season 3; Expect Less Time Travel in THE FLASH Season 4

Here, we have more tidbits from The CW’s big Arrowverse panel at PaleyFest this past weekend. Rotten Tomatoes spoke with Legends of Tomorrow showrunner Phil Klemmer and producer Marc Guggenheim on the red carpet. There, they offered some new hints for the show’s third season.

Legends had some major casting shakeups from its first season, removing original team members and adding new characters in season two. Season three will continue this trend, as new Legends will join the Waverider crew. Guggenheim confirms that one of these characters will be a pre-existing DC character…but with a catch.

Guggenheim cryptically teases, “We’re drawing on an established character who is not from the comics. Let me be very clear: not original to the show but not from the comics and not from any of the other DC Arrowverse shows.” To help narrow down who this is, Guggenheim says simply to watch other television shows and movies that are based on DC Comics, but created some original characters.

Who do you think this new Legend of Tomorrow will be?

Rotten Tomatoes also spoke with The Flash showrunners Todd and Aaron Helbing on the red carpet. At the panel, it was announced that season four’s big bad will not be a speedster, a first for the series. Now, the Helbings are teasing another big change for the show.

Todd says that The Flash will probably have less focus on time travel and alternate realities in season four. Aaron elaborates, “We like playing with the timelines and the different time periods and future and past. For now, I think we’re going to focus on the present.”

The Flash has dealt heavily with the concept of time travel since the first season. It particularly became big when Barry created the Flashpoint timeline and later traveled to the future to see Savitar kill Iris. As for alternate realities, the show has done a lot with the Multiverse since season two. So, having less of these elements in season four should be an interesting change of pace.
