Rumor: Fox Developing New, More Kid-Centric FANTASTIC FOUR Movie

To say the least, 20th Century Fox has struggled to make the Fantastic Four work on the big screen. The studio released two movies in 2005 and 2007. While the first film was a financial success, the sequel was a disappointment, killing plans for a third film. Fox tried again in 2015 with Fant4stic Fantastic Four, which was a huge failure financially and critically. Again, this killed plans for a sequel and an X-Men crossover.

Following Fant4stic, fans have wondered what will happen with the franchise now. Will Fox give it another go with a second reboot, or maybe even a sequel? Or would Marvel Studios finally get the rights back? Now, we might have an answer.

Bleeding Cool has shared a rumor claiming that Fox is developing yet another new Fantastic Four movie. The twist? It will focus on Franklin and Valeria Richards, the children of Reed Richards and Susan Storm. Human Torch and The Thing will feature as well. The film is said to be targeting a more kid-friendly approach and in the vein of The Incredibles. Seth Grahame-Smith, who worked on the Fant4stic script, is reportedly writing this movie.

Putting the focus on the Richards kids would certainly make it stand apart from past Fantastic Four efforts. In fact, Bleeding Cool suggests that this approach may not be another reboot, given how different it is from the other films. But, that’s not definite.

This new film would also extend Fox’s ownership of the Fantastic Four rights; if they put a new movie into production in the next few years, they hold on to the characters longer. But will the fourth time be the charm? We’ll have to wait and see.

Again, this is just a rumor for now, so take it with that pinch of salt until we hear confirmation. Stay tuned.
