SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Falls to Second Place in Weekend #2, Swings Past $400 Million Worldwide

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming entered its second weekend of release, riding off of strong reception from critics and audiences. This weekend, the film faced off with new release War for the Planet of the Apes. While Spider-Man relinquished the top spot to Apes, the movie still did pretty well.

Per THR, Spider-Man: Homecoming grossed an estimated $45.2 million this weekend. That’s 61% down from its opening weekend. According to Forbes, that’s the same as Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and it’s the biggest second-weekend drop for any Marvel Cinematic Universe film. However, Homecoming benefits from a much smaller budget and strong word-of-mouth.

To date, Homecoming has grossed about $208.2 million domestically and $261.1 million overseas. This brings its worldwide total to $469.4 million. It has already surpassed the entire domestic run of Amazing Spider-Man 2 ($202.8 million), and it should outgross the original Amazing Spider-Man ($262 million) when all is said and done. Will it reach the heights of the Sam Raimi trilogy, though? We’ll have to wait and see.
