AQUAMAN Production Budget Revealed?

The first post-Justice League DC film, Aquaman, has been shooting for a couple months now in Australia and other locations. Since the start of production, we haven’t had too much news about this film. There was a short San Diego Comic-Con presentation, while some images of Mera were released. Now, we may know the production budget.

Redland City Bulletin published a story about Aquaman shooting in North Stradbroke and how the film is giving a boost to the island, which is in Queensland, Australia. In the article, the site suggests that Aquaman‘s production budget is $160 million.

It’s unknown if $160 million is the final figure for the production budget (which is separate from whatever WB spends on marketing), but if it is, then Aquaman will have one of the smaller budgets in the DCEU. Man of Steel cost $225 million, Batman v Superman cost $250 million, and Suicide Squad cost $175 million. The least expensive DCEU film to date is this summer’s Wonder Woman, which only cost $149 million. The Justice League budget is unknown, but it’s likely somewhere in the $200 million range – especially after this summer’s reshoots.

Aquaman is set to be a visually massive movie, exploring the underwater world of Atlantis. There will surely be a lot of CGI to effectively bring these characters and settings to life. As long as that can be done with this $160 million budget and the film is a huge box office hit, then it’s good to go.

Aquaman is scheduled to hit theaters December 21st, 2018. The sixth installment in the DC Extended Universe stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Temuera Morrison, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Patrick Wilson, and Nicole Kidman. James Wan directs from a script by Will Beall.
