GOTHAM CITY SIRENS Evolves Into Joker/Harley Quinn Movie? Directors/Writers Joining

Last month, it was rumored that Warner Bros. was developing a Harley Quinn vs. The Joker movie, making it the latest addition to the DC Extended Universe. It was said to be separate from both Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens. But now, a new movie starring the two characters is confirmed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crazy Stupid Love duo Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are in final talks to write and direct an untitled film starring Harley Quinn and The Joker. Margot Robbie and Jared Leto, respectively, are attached to reprise their roles. Described as a “criminal love story,” the movie is expected to come after Suicide Squad 2, which is now seeking a director. Both films are on the fast track.

However, is this project the same thing as Gotham City Sirens, or is it separate? The Tracking Board and Variety say that Sirens has been “reconceived,” and it is being replaced by Harley Quinn & Joker. Thus, director David Ayer is no longer involved. However, Deadline says that the two projects are separate, despite originally saying otherwise. Some conflicting reports here, but hopefully, there’ll be clarification sooner than later.

And just to rehash, this film is completely separate from WB’s planned Joker origin movie, which is intended to be part of a new DC Elseworlds-type banner.

So yeah, these are some very interesting new plans for Harley and Joker’s big screen future. There has been some speculation as to whether Leto would return as Joker, partly due to the ordeal over his (lack of) Suicide Squad screentime. But, it’s cool that he’s coming back. This also makes Leto the first actor to play Joker more than once in a live action film.

Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
