JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Recruits a New Screenwriter as Director Search Continues

Warner Bros. has been developing DC’s Justice League Dark movie for several years, with Guillermo del Toro originally attached. After he dropped out, the studio eventually hired Doug Liman to come on board. But he, too, left the project. While the film was mentioned at WB’s San Diego Comic-Con panel last month, the studio has been trying to lock down a director for a while.

While we wait on that, the movie is getting a new screenwriter. According to Deadline, Housebound director Gerard Johnstone has been hired to polish the Justice League Dark script. Johnstone was actually one of several directors to create a presentation on the film, and while WB isn’t locking down a director yet, the studio liked him enough to give him the script.

This news comes after Variety’s Justin Kroll reported that WB was underwhelmed by director presentations, leading to the reworking of the script.

Deadline adds that there was a point where it looked like Andy Muschietti would direct Justice League Dark. However, his new movie, It, has been generating very strong reception online. As a result, he’s focusing solely on the follow-up film.

Hopefully, WB will lock down a new director sooner than later. Stay tuned for more updates as we have them.
