Nick Fury Isn't in AVENGERS 3 and 4 After All, Says Samuel L. Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury played a crucial role in the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recruiting Iron Man and the other heroes for his “Avengers Initiative.” The last time we saw Fury, the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. popped up in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron to once again assist our heroes. Since then, he’s been absent from Marvel movies, but he will appear in 2019’s Captain Marvel.

Originally, it was expected that Fury would also appear in next year’s Avengers: Infinity War and/or 2019’s Avengers 4, especially given that the two movies will serve as a conclusion to the MCU’s current story arc. However, turns out that’s not the case.

Speaking with Yahoo! Movies UK, Jackson says that Fury won’t be popping up in the next two Avengers films. “I wasn’t in the ‘superhero argument’ movie [Captain America: Civil War], I’m not in Avengers 3 and 4. They’re shooting them now, and they haven’t called me yet.” He also reaffirms that he’s not in Black Panther either.

Yahoo! notes that this interview was conducted before Jackson’s confirmation for Captain Marvel at San Diego Comic-Con last month. So, it’s possible that things can change for Avengers. They can always give him the call later on if necessary. But if he doesn’t, then we’ll just have Captain Marvel to look forward to. (Personally, I still think Fury should’ve died for real in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as that would’ve been a good conclusion to his story. But, I digress.)

Are you disappointed by Fury’s exclusion from the two-part Avengers finale?
