Astonishing Marvels Staff Weighs In: Thor Ragnarok

Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok is the latest sequel to reach box office hit acclamation, and has surpassed $700 million worldwide. The film has also successfully revived the Thor franchise, turning the god of thunder into a suave, hysterical leader of Asgard.

What did we here at Astonishing Marvels think of Thor: Ragnarok? Look below to see the crew’s reviews, and check out Mike’s full review HERE.

Michael:
Thor: Ragnarok takes everything we know about the character and turns it on its head. It’s a hilarious space adventure, but also the darkest Marvel film yet. Director Taika Waititi delivers his signature style of humor and the spectacle Thor deserves. I had a smile on my face almost the entire time. It’s pretty much everything you could want and then some.”

Paul:
Thor: Ragnarok is a successful reinvention of the franchise, taking the God of Thunder into exciting new territory. The film is hilarious, action-packed, and just plain fun. Hulk fits perfectly into this franchise, Valkyrie steals the show, and Hela is easily one of Marvel’s best villains to date. Yet another winner for Marvel Studios, and the comic book movie genre as a whole.”

Landon:
“I haven’t seen Thor: Ragnarok yet, but the soundtrack is KILLER. And also, Loki looks like Tommy Wiseau, which means it’s basically one of the best comic book movies ever made.”

Katie:
Thor: Ragnarok was an extremely successful reinvention of a character. Waititi was able to inject a sense of humor that seemed right for a character were in the past, all humor related to Thor seemed to just make fun of him. I could not stop laughing and I considered that a good thing for once. Hela was phenomenal, one of my favorite Marvel villains to date, and Loki – Loki was suave, and played the perfect side kick to Valkyrie and Thor. Hulk seemed like an after thought at first, but as the movie progressed, he fit more and more in to the story line. Great way to set up the next Marvel movie!”
