JUSTICE LEAGUE Falls to Second Place This Weekend, Nears $500 Million Worldwide

DC Films’ Justice League has not only earned mixed reviews from critics, but it has struggled at the box office too. Its $94 million opening weekend was the franchise’s lowest to date, while it is supposed to make at least $700 million worldwide if it were to break even. We don’t know if that’s happening yet, but we have the estimates from its second weekend.

Per Box Office Mojo, Justice League grossed an estimated $40.7 million over the three-day weekend $59.6 million over five days, putting it in second place behind Pixar’s Coco ($49 million/$71.2 million). This is a nearly 57% drop from its opening weekend; that’s a bigger drop than Wonder Woman (43%), but smaller than Man of Steel (65%), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (69%), and Suicide Squad (67%).

Justice League‘s domestic total is now $171.5 million. The movie is doing better overseas, where it passed the $300 million mark. Its worldwide total is now $481.5 million. So, it should crack the $500 million mark in a day or two. After that, it has to gross another $200 million or so to break even. The next couple weeks will tell us if that’s going to happen.

Stay tuned for more box office updates as we have them.
