Producer Charles Roven Offers Updates on THE BATMAN and MAN OF STEEL 2

DC Films’ Justice League will unite DC’s biggest heroes, including the top two: Batman and Superman. The two characters have been scheduled to get new solo movies for a while. Matt Reeves recently took over to direct and rewrite The Batman, while a standalone Man of Steel sequel hasn’t made much movement. Now, we have updates on both movies.

Producer Charles Roven tells Washington Times that Ben Affleck is still attached to star in The Batman, but given Reeves’ rewriting the film from scratch, it’s hard to definitively say what will stick and what will be cut. “From everything I know, [Affleck is] going to play that Batman. They’re retooling the script, so I can’t really say anything for certain.” There has been a lot of back-and-forth about Affleck’s Batman future post-Justice League (even the actor himself sounds unsure), but hopefully, he’ll be back as the Dark Knight for at least one more movie before moving on.

However, Roven sounds even less optimistic about Man of Steel 2 happening anytime soon. While “various story ideas” are being considered, there is no script yet. It was reported last year that the sequel was a top priority for Warner Bros., while director Matthew Vaughn has had conversations about it. But now, it sounds like it may not be coming for the foreseeable future.

Stay tuned for more DC Films updates as we have them.
