Box Office: JUSTICE LEAGUE Slowing Down in Third Weekend

Justice League has been in theaters for three weeks now, and to say that the film’s box office is disappointing is an understatement. The DC movie only grossed about $94 million in its opening weekend, which is embarrassing for a movie with a $300 million production budget. This week, the film is slowing down…at least domestically.

Per Box Office Mojo, Justice League grossed an estimated $16.5 million this weekend, a whopping 60% drop from last week. It is still in second place behind Pixar’s Coco ($26.1 million). This brings its domestic total to $197.3 million.

Things are faring a little better overseas, however. Justice League made it to $370.1 million internationally this weekend, bringing its worldwide total to $567.4 million. In China, Justice League has surpassed both Batman v Superman and Wonder Woman for a $98.5 million gross. It will break $100 million in the nation this week.

Gitesh Pandya predicts that Justice League will “likely” finish in the $700 million range. If it does, then that will bring the film to break-even. It’s still a disappointing number for a movie of this scale, but it’s better to turn a small profit than for the studio to actually lose money on it.

Stay tuned for more box office updates as we have them.
