First AQUAMAN Still and New Plot Details Revealed

Following Arthur Curry’s introduction in Justice League, the character will get a full origin story in next year’s Aquaman. Today, Entertainment Weekly has a first look at the upcoming DC film.

EW’s feature includes the first official still from the movie, featuring an extra-jacked and extra-shirtless Curry.

Director James Wan explains that Aquaman will be very different from Justice League, in more ways than one. “It’s going to look very different, it will feel very different – aesthetically, tonally, story-wise – it’s my own take. It’s a much more a traditional action-adventure quest movie.” He also reaffirms an old story where Warner Bros. pitched him the opportunity to direct either this movie or The Flash, and obviously, he chose the former.

Star Jason Momoa adds that Aquaman will explore Arthur Curry’s story in detail, unlike Justice League, which was just one weekend in the character’s life. “In Aquaman, you see when his parents met and what happened to them. Then the little boy being raised and finding his powers and going through that and never being accepted on either side. And then becoming this man who puts up all these walls. You just slowly see this man harden up and be completely reluctant wanting to be king and not knowing what to do with these powers he has. I think James Wan just killed it.”

Hopefully, we’ll see more from this movie sooner than later. Stay tuned.

Aquaman is scheduled to hit theaters December 21st, 2018. The sixth installment in the DC Extended Universe stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Temuera Morrison, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Ludi Lin, Patrick Wilson, and Nicole Kidman. James Wan directs from a script by Will Beall.
