Michelle Williams Confirms VENOM Character, Talks Working with Tom Hardy

Sony’s Venom movie is currently undergoing production. A while back, it was rumored that Ann Weying, a lawyer and Eddie Brock’s ex-wife in the comics, would appear in the film. Then Michelle Williams joined the cast, and her character sounded a lot like Weying. Well, now it’s confirmed.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Williams confirms that she’s playing Ann Weying. She talks about the process of working on a CG-heavy film – only the second time in her career – but she especially has positive things to say about co-star Tom Hardy. “It’s, um, well for me it’s Tom (Hardy). I just thought, well, that guy knows what he’s doing. I’m just going to go steal some of his moves, figure out what he knows. I just wanted to, you know, you’re only as good as the people you play with and I really wanted to challenge myself with him as a partner.”

In the comics, Ann Weying had a love/hate relationship with Eddie Brock. At one point, she is bonded to the Venom symbiote and becomes She-Venom. Her story has some really dark elements (spoiler: she commits suicide at the end), and it’ll be interesting to see how much Venom includes, with its rumored R rating and all.
Venom is scheduled to hit theaters on October 5th, 2018. The first installment of Sony’s Marvel Universe stars Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, Scott Haze, and Woody Harrelson. Ruben Fleischer directs from a script by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner.
