     When
Action Comics #1 hit the stands in
1938, it forever changed the face of popular culture. It marked the debut of
Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, who singlehandedly started the superhero phenomenon. On April 18, Action
Comic
s one thousandth issue will
go on sale. DC Comics is pulling out all the stops for this event as they have
announced on their official
website
that Action Comics #1000 will be a supersized hardcover comic
book that will feature many writers and artists that have contributed to the
Superman mythos over the years.
     The
list of contributors includes Brian Michael Bendis writing his first story for DC Comics after nearly twenty-years with Marvel, Marv Wolfman
who wrote a story based on never before seen art by Silver Age artist Curt
Swan, Richard Donner who directed the first Superman film, President and Chief
Creative Officer of DC Comics Geoff Johns, and Dan Jurgens who wrote and drew
the infamous Death of Superman storyline.  Many other writers and artists will also
contribute to Action Comics #1000.
The biggest news about Action Comics #1000 is that Superman will finally be getting his red trunks back after
seven years without them. The front cover drawn by DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim
Lee, combines the classic Superman look with more modern elements of his
costume like the gauntlets on his wrists.

     “Action
Comics
#1000, represents a watershed moment in the history of not just, but
entertainment, literature, and pop culture,” said Lee. “There’s no better way
to celebrate Superman’s enduring popularity than to give him a look that
combines some new accents with the most iconic feature of his classic design.”
