DEADPOOL 2 Moved Up Two Weeks, NEW MUTANTS and GAMBIT Delayed

20th Century Fox just shook up the release schedule for its X-Men slate, moving up one movie and pushing back two more.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool 2 has been moved up from June 1st to May 18th of this year. This puts it two weeks after Avengers: Infinity War and one week before Solo: A Star Wars Story. Hopefully, the film will still do well while crammed in between two big blockbusters.

In a surprising move, The New Mutants has been pushed back from April 13th of this year to February 22nd, 2019 – a whole ten months. With the marketing campaign already started, a delay like this was unexpected. THR’s sources suggest that overseas box office played a role in the decision, as New Mutants and Deadpool 2 would have had overlap in some places. Per The Wrap and The Tracking Board, Fox apparently wants to make the film scarier and fully embrace its horror tone.

And finally, Gambit has been delayed from February 14th, 2019 to June 7th, 2019. This move isn’t shocking, as the film lost its director (again) just today. Also, studio insiders think that a summer release would be more beneficial for this movie, which is described as a heist story with a “heavy” comedic tone.

So, yeah, some very interesting moves on the calendar here. Hopefully, they all pay off. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
