Director Josh Boone Calls THE NEW MUTANTS the "Hardest" PG-13 Movie Ever

Fox’s The New Mutants was originally set to come out this April, but recently, the studio suddenly delayed the film to February 22nd, 2019. There have been conflicting reports as to why the delay. Some say Fox wants to up the ante with the horror tone and scares, while others say they want to give it a lighter tone.

Regardless, writer/director Josh Boone talks about the movie with Empire Magazine (via Comic Book Movie). He addresses the planned rating for The New Mutants, saying that it’ll go the PG-13 route (a contrast from recent X-Men spinoffs Deadpool and Logan, which both embraced R ratings). However, the film is still going to push boundaries. “This movie is probably the hardest PG-13 ever made. I mean, we’ve pushed it. The horror is pretty dark, but there’s also an emotional core, too. If I can scare you and make you cry: that’s the goal.”

Boone also confirms that the characters in The New Mutants won’t be wearing costumes, which sets it apart from the rest of the franchise even more. For his comments on that, click HERE.
