DOCTOR DOOM Movie Development Not Affected by Disney/Fox Deal…Yet

At last summer’s San Diego Comic-Con, Legion creator Noah Hawley revealed that he was working on a Doctor Doom movie for Fox. The film, which Hawley would write and direct, brings the Fantastic Four’s arch nemesis to the spotlight. Since then, we’ve heard few updates, and with Disney’s acquisition of Fox announced, the fate of several Fox Marvel movies are up in the air.

Well, it turns out Doctor Doom is still moving forward as expected…at least for now. Speaking with Collider, Hawley confirms that he’s still developing the movie, as the Fox/Disney deal isn’t even a sure thing yet. “I haven’t had a single conversation yet about Doom in the context of the merger. On some level, we’re still looking at a period of time – probably a year, at the least – for this whole thing to go through. Who knows, corporately, what conversations will be had, but certainly, until it goes through, it’s not a legal thing. I don’t know. I’ve been waiting for the phone to ring to see if anyone is gonna have an opinion. Otherwise, it’s just business as usual for me.”

Hawley’s comments go along with what we’ve heard for other projects, as films like Gambit are still going into production while the deal is ongoing. The Disney/Fox deal needs congressional approval before it can be finalized, and then it’ll be more time to integrate Fox’s assets into the Disney fold.

Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
