Joe Morton Says CYBORG Movie is Still Happening, Will Tell Hero’s Origin Story

Back when Warner Bros. released its initial DC movie slate in 2014, a Cyborg solo movie was scheduled for 2020. As time went on and the schedule was more and more in flux, it was unclear where Victor Stone’s movie fits in now. Actor Joe Morton, who plays Dr. Silas Stone, said last year that it was still in the works, and he reaffirms that in a new interview.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Morton says that there are still plans to make a Cyborg movie…eventually. “From what I understand, there will be a Cyborg movie. It will be about him and I, and about the family that he came from, how he becomes the Cyborg, et cetera. But from whence he came, as well.”

So, a Cyborg movie would explore Victor Stone’s full origin story. When we first met him in Justice League, Victor was already turned into Cyborg following his accident, and he was still struggling with how to live his life with his new body. It’s unclear if the movie would take place post-Justice League and just have flashbacks to the origin, or if the entire thing takes place in the past.

Morton also shares his excitement for Cyborg getting the spotlight. “I think it’s exciting because there aren’t that many, if any, black superheroes, and in his case in particular, because there is no alias, because there is nothing for him to hide behind, and that he has to be who he is all the time. I think it’s a great kind of allegory for what it means to be black in this country.”
