Rumor: Henry Cavill’s Superman Will Return in SHAZAM!; Update on MAN OF STEEL 2

Henry Cavill’s Superman has played a critical role in DC Films’ universe. Following the introduction of this world in Man of Steel, Kal-El returned in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and was reborn in Justice League. Fans have been anxious for Superman to get his own movie again, or really, just appear anywhere on screen again. Now, we may have an answer.

According to Revenge of The Fans, Cavill’s Superman is set to appear in New Line’s Shazam! movie, which hits theaters on April 5th, 2019. It’s unclear just how big his role will be in this film, but basically, Billy Batson is heavily inspired by Superman, especially when he becomes a superhero himself.

As previously reported, Warner Bros. was hoping to announce a new Superman movie this month, but that was affected by Justice League‘s underperformance. RTF says that the plan now is to announce the film (including its director and release date) this summer, possibly at San Diego Comic-Con. And based on DC’s current slate, the movie won’t be out until 2020 at the earliest.

Additionally, Dwayne Johnson is said to be “adamant” about Superman appearing in his Black Adam movie. But based on The Rock’s hectic schedule, that film is also a ways off. And WB wants Superman to return to screens sooner than later, since his Justice League role got mostly positive reception. Thus, while Man of Steel 2 and Black Adam are further down the line, a Shazam! role was decided.

Again, this is just a rumor for now, and nothing has been confirmed officially just yet. But once it is, we’ll talk about it here, so stay tuned.
