FLASHPOINT Directors Explain What Attracted Them to the Superhero Film

After losing two directors and spending more than a year searching for a replacement, DC’s The Flash movie (titled Flashpoint) finally found its directors in Vacation duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Now, the filmmakers explain how they were approached for the superhero film.

In an interview with Collider, Daley and Goldstein say that Warner Bros. went to them with interest in doing a DC movie. They were given several options to choose from, and the self-proclaimed Flash fans chose Flashpoint. Goldstein says that their experience with writing Spider-Man: Homecoming and directing the upcoming Game Night resulted in their consideration. However, they caution that their contract is still being negotiated, so it’s not a done deal yet.

As for why exactly they chose Flashpoint, Daley says, “Just the fact that the character is unique from other superheroes in that he doesn’t completely have his shit together like Superman does. It’s more of a ground-level superhero.” Goldstein adds, “It’s a relatable way in to a superhero movie in some of the same ways that Peter Parker was for the Marvel side of things.”

So, while Daley and Goldstein aren’t officially directing Flashpoint just yet, signs are pointing to a deal being closed soon. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.

Flashpoint is rumored to hit theaters sometime in 2020.
