CAPTAIN MARVEL Officially Begins Production; Phil Coulson and Ronan the Accuser to Appear

Today, Marvel Studios announced the start of production on its next blockbuster, Captain Marvel. The press release confirmed a slew of details, such as filming locations. But most importantly, we have the full cast, which reveals the returns of several MCU characters.

First up, Clark Gregg is returning as Phil Coulson. Of course, Coulson was a key recurring character in Marvel’s first phase, ending with his death in The Avengers. He was later resurrected for ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is now in its fifth season. The modern day Avengers still believe Coulson to be dead, but with Captain Marvel set in the 1990s, it makes more sense to have him running around there.

Additionally, Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou are reprising their roles as Ronan the Accuser and Korath, respectively, from Guardians of the Galaxy. Captain Marvel will feature the Kree alien race, so it makes sense for younger versions of Ronan and Korath to pop up.

The rest of the film’s cast includes Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, and Jude Law as Mar-Vell.
