AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Becomes the Highest Grossing Superhero Movie of All Time Worldwide

Avengers: Infinity War has held the top spot at the box office for the third weekend in a row, to the surprise of no one. Meanwhile, the Marvel Studios epic has set some new records.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Infinity War grossed an estimated $61.8 million this weekend, giving it the fourth-biggest 3rd weekend in history. Despite a few new releases, none of them are tentpoles, giving Infinity War no real competition. That will end next week, however, with the arrival of Deadpool 2.

In China, Infinity War grossed a massive $200 million in its opening weekend. This gives it the second-biggest opening in the nation, behind The Fate of the Furious. For comparison’s sake, Age of Ultron‘s lifetime gross in China was $240.1 million.

Infinity War has currently grossed $546.8 million and $1.059 billion overseas, bringing its worldwide total to a massive $1.606 billion. This passes the first Avengers, and thus, it is now the highest grossing superhero film of all time worldwide. And the film is keep going, with talk of it potentially reaching $2 billion by the end of its run.

While Infinity War is the top superhero film worldwide, it is still behind Black Panther ($696.2 million) and The Avengers ($623.4 million) in North America. However, if its legs continue to be strong, it could take the top spot domestically as well.
