President Diane Nelson Leaving DC Entertainment and Warner Bros.

A few months ago, Diane Nelson, president of DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, took an unexpected leave of absence. She cited family-related issues for her break. Now, however, it looks like her break will be a permanent one.

It has been announced (via The Hollywood Reporter) that Diane Nelson is leaving Warner Bros. and DC, after more than 20 years of working with the studio.

Nelson joined DC as president in 2009, playing a critical role in bringing the company’s film, TV, and video game divisions closer together, and on the same page with WB. Nelson oversaw a more talent-friendly revitalization in comics, while DC’s television portfolio became bigger than ever. Meanwhile, Nelson’s exit comes at an interesting time for DC Films, with president Walter Hamada overseeing the company’s movie slate.

In addition to her work at DC, Nelson oversaw brand management for the Harry Potter series, she was president of Warner Premiere, and she was executive vice president for global brand management at WB.

Nelson gave the following statement on her exit. “Warner Bros. has been my home for over 20 years with a wide variety of incredible professional experiences. The last nine – rebuilding and managing DC Entertainment – have been a particular highlight and privilege. With the support and talents of our staff and creators, I am proud to leave DC even stronger than when I joined it. I will miss everyone – particularly my executive management team – without whom none of our achievements could have been realized. And I am excited to take on my next professional adventure.”

Nelson’s exit surely marks the end of an era. It will be interesting to see where DC goes from here. Stay tuned.
