TEEN TITANS GO! TO THE MOVIES Comes Behind Expectations with Estimated $10.5 Million Opening

A few weeks ago, Teen Titans GO! To the Movies was tracking to open somewhere between $14 million and $19 million. However, the weekend estimates are in, and the film is opening with even less than that.

Per Box Office Mojo, Teen Titans GO! is opening with an estimated $10.5 million, putting it in 5th place. Meanwhile, the film opened in eight international markets, bringing in about $1 million, putting its worldwide debut at $11.5 million. Additionally, the movie earned a lukewarm B+ on CinemaScore, while critics have been very positive.

This is definitely an underwhelming debut for Teen Titans GO!, especially given its initial tracking. However, it’s still a stretch to call it a bomb. The film’s budget was just $10 million, not counting marketing. So, it pretty much already made back its budget. And if it has decent legs over the next few weeks, it could turn out to be profitable. Plus, it’s out in the midst of tough summer competition. (I mean, it’s out on the same day as the universally acclaimed Mission: Impossible – Fallout.)
