ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Soars Past Original Film After Major Overseas Boost

Ant-Man and The Wasp has been out domestically for nearly two months, but its international rollout has been a lot slower. This week, the Marvel sequel finally hit theaters in China, and it’s already off to a great start.

This weekend, Ant-Man and The Wasp grossed an estimated $71.2 million overseas, fueled by a $68 million opening in China. This gives it the fourth biggest Marvel Studios opening in the nation, behind Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, and Captain America: Civil War. This brings the film’s worldwide total to a whopping $544.1 million, pushing past the first Ant-Man‘s $519.3 million.

Ant-Man and The Wasp‘s final market will be Japan, where it opens on August 31st. That will surely continue the film’s big overseas boost, giving its theatrical run more life before it arrives on home video later this year.

Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
