JOKER Gets a Composer; Joaquin Phoenix Not Worried About Fan Pressure

We have a couple news tidbits for Warner Bros.’ Joker movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix as the future Clown Prince of Crime.

First up, composer Hildur Gudnadottir has been hired to score Joker. Gudnadottir previously scored this summer’s Sicario: Day of the Soldado. She also works on the Icelandic show Trapped. This news comes after DC’s other 2019 movies, Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984, recruited composers.

In other news, Joaquin Phoenix took the time to talk with IndieWire about the inevitable fan pressure of playing The Joker. Fortunately, he’s not too worried about it. “I could care less. I don’t really think that much about what people think. Who cares, who cares? My approach to every movie is the same. What I’m interested in is the filmmaker and the idea of the character.”

There are few comic book roles more widely publicized than Joker. Heath Ledger’s portrayal in The Dark Knight won him a posthumous Oscar, while Jared Leto’s performance in Suicide Squad was one of the most criticized parts of not only that movie, but the entire DC Films franchise. So, all eyes are on Phoenix, and will surely be on any other actor who plays Joker in the future.

Joker hits theaters on October 4th, 2019.
